You present a small pouch or wrap of tobacco in your left hand when making a request, and if accepted, the person has agreed to listen openly and without judgement and to support you as best they can.
The pouch can be a small, decorative item or a simple wrap of cloth, and the tobacco itself can be traditional or commercially prepared. You can check with your elder and see if they have a preference for type of tobacco.
