Rather than utilizing standard broadleaf, Foundation Cigar Company founder Nick Melillo turned to an experimental, non-GMO hybrid wrapper known simply as Havana Seed CT #142. This rare leaf bridges the gap between traditional Cuban seed characteristics and the distinct terroir of the Connecticut River Valley, creating a smoking experience specifically tailored for the sophisticated palate.

The CT #142 leaf is a hybrid of Havana Seed #38 and Havana Seed #1207. Cultivated in the mineral-rich soils of Connecticut, the plant grows entirely upright, forcing every leaf to absorb maximum sunlight. This intense exposure causes the plant to sweat an extraordinary amount of thick, natural oils. The result is a physically smaller, smoother, and vastly more nutrient-dense wrapper leaf than standard variants, bursting with concentrated flavor precursors.

Because the CT #142 wrapper is packed with heavy, resilient oils, it cannot be rushed. It requires a meticulous, low-temperature fermentation process lasting a full three years under the watchful eye of master blender AJ Fernandez. This extended curing period slowly coaxes out the harshness and breaks down the heavy oils, yielding a clean-burning wrapper with a deeply fermented, dark Colorado-Maduro appearance.
