In the 19th century, Juan Cuevas, Spanish immigrant from Santander, began what was to be a family business which now spans four generations. After decades of manufacturing premium cigars for notable brands, it was decided that the time had come to produce and market a high-end, premium cigar that would bear the Cuevas name. Today, Luis Sr. is joined by his son, Luis Jr. in the manufacture and sale of premium, long filler cigars at their factory, Tabacalera Las Lavas, in Santiago, Dominican Republic.

When the Miami headquarters was robbed of cigars, the idea for, “La Mandarria” (Sledge Hammer) came to be. It’s said that the thieves used sledgehammers to bust through the wall of the warehouse and made off with their cigars! An Ecuadorian Habano wrapper covers Nicaraguan binder, and fillers from Nicaragua, Colombia and the Dominican republic. This cigar has a pigtail cap and shaggy foot. It’s the companies first full strength cigar and full bodied cigar.
