When Black Works Studio (BLK WKS) first introduced the “Boondock Saint” back in 2016, it quickly developed a fanatic, cult-like following. Releases in 2017, 2018, and 2019 vanished from store shelves instantly. Then, the blend seemingly disappeared into the shadows for over five long years. Aside from a brief teaser appearance in the brand’s 10th-anniversary Boombox sampler, aficionados were left empty-handed and hungry for a full return.

The wait officially ended with the return of this highly requested limited edition. To celebrate its massive resurrection, brand creator James Brown didn’t just bring back the original sizes—he unleashed a brand-new, ultra-exclusive 7″ x 42 Lancero vitola. Rolled at the boutique Fábrica Oveja Negra factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, the Lancero format was engineered specifically to highlight the blend’s dark, oily wrapper. With only 450 boxes of the Lancero produced for the entire global market, it stands as the rarest and most sought-after format in the entire Boondock lineage.

A Lancero features a much higher ratio of wrapper tobacco to filler; the first light hits the palate with immediate, amplified nuance. Rather than being hit with pure, unbridled strength, you are treated to a luxurious wave of rich anise, dark molasses sweetness, clove, and bitter baking cocoa. As the straight burn line glides along, deep undertones of volcanic earth, black pepper, and dark stone fruits emerge. It is a bold, uncompromisingly full-bodied experience that remains perfectly balanced and smooth from the pigtail cap to the foot.
